( 3 / 5 )OK, Dallas (my cowboy) finally got me up on a horse. For years I have been writing about the Big South Fork region and admiring the beautiful horses along the way and the fantastic horse farms and stables, however unbeknownst to most people, I am a little afraid of horses. Well Dallas got me up on Beauty the other day, while the Burckhard family were checking out Cedar Creek Cattle Company. We learned more about the 278 acre ranch and the Archambault and Joan Robert's vision and passion for offering horse back riding trails and lessons on their ranch. Cowboy Dallas was fantastic and got me on "Beauty" and took me down some trails. While back at the ranch, hospitable Joan entertained Grant and Blake with roping the bull's horns and talking to husband Terry. Their trails meander through white pine forests, along flowing creek beds with fantastic geological formations.

This is definitely worth the trip and the service and views are fantastic. More about Cedar Creek Cattle Company in the upcoming Big South Fork Visitor Guide 2008-2009 which comes out around the 22nd of May, 2008! If you wish to get your latest copy, don't hesitate to send us a request.
Happy Trails....Annie

( 4 / 2 )Yes, Spring is in the air! One of my favorite drives is going from Byrdstown to Jamestown - over the mountain, as the locals say! There are some of the prettiest valleys and mountain views near Clark Mountain, Moodyville and Pall Mall. I used to live at the foot of Clark Mountain and loved the mountain view and the quietness of the countryside. The redbuds are starting to peak out, the forsythias are in full bloom and Mrs. Betty Rich has the most beautiful rock garden with creeping phlox, tulips, daffodils and some beautiful driftwood that no doubt came from Dale Hollow Lake. The pastures facing Clark Mountain and majestic Huddleston's Knob have horses grazing and happy cows drinking from flowing streams from all the spring rain and fresh thick green pastures.

In about another week, the leaves will become fuller and greener, with spotted whites and fuchsia colors blanketing across the horizon. This is the sign that warm weather, boating season and swimming is getting real close and the busy tourist season is about to begin. Sunset Restaurant is opening this weekend on Friday, April 4th and Chef Zoom and Restaurant Manager Brian Mueller are getting the wonderful Sunset Restaurant team going with some exciting new restaurant items on the menu to tantalize your taste buds. Star Point Resort is also going to be hopping this weekend with the regional Wal-Mart BFL fishing tournament. The fishermen have been out at Dale Hollow Lake practicing and enjoying the nice spring air and fantastic fishing. Dale Hollow #1 Stop in Celina has been a hotspot with the fishermen, buying their lures and getting fishing advice from fishing guru, Stephen Headrick of Punisher Lures and owner of Dale Hollow #1 Stop. Get in your car, come out for the day or weekend and enjoy the springtime at Dale Hollow Lake and the Big South Fork Region.
Happy Spring! Annie

( 2.4 / 5 )Spring is definitely in the air! The bradford pears are starting to blooming, and the red buds, dogwoods are following close behind! The daffodils have been smiling for at least the last two weeks, with fields of yellow dotting the pastures around the region. Easter promises to be a warm, beautiful day and many children are awaiting the Easter Bunny and the famous Easter hunts that the churches do down here! Fishermen are coming to Dale Hollow Lake in droves and fishing is at its best! The Big South Fork is welcoming the spring riders, who are anxious to get back out on the trails and ride. Spring is undoubtedly my favorite time of the year, for many reasons. The air is fresh, the birds are chirping, the spring blooms and grass being mown excite my senses. It is also a time to reflect on God's wonderful creation and his presence all around us. Enjoy the nice weather and do some day trips to a place you have haven't enjoyed yet. Peruse the Dale Hollow Visitor's Guide or the Big South Fork Visitor's Guide and pick a new spot. Be adventurous and enjoy each day. Don't forget to take photos and enter our annual photo contests. You can now check out the Dale Hollow Lake Visitor's Guide and the Big South Fork Visitor's Guide online!
Enjoy the Spring and Happy Easter! Annie

( 2.8 / 12 )Most children do not like to have their pictures taken, but our sons, Grant and Blake love to have their pictures taken! Recently, we went hiking at Cumberland Mountain State Park in Crossville and took some amazing pictures.
The Burckhard family loves to hike and it was a new trail for us to try out. One of our good clients, Jeff Hughes, highly recommends the Cumberland Mountain State Park restaurant for their hot buffet with delicious catfish and fried chicken, so we decided to try it out! When I look at the pictures, I can see how much fun we had that day. They are starting to pose for pictures and then they ask "hey mom, are we going to be in the next book?" The Cumberland Mountain State Park, not only has a well marked and groomed trail system, but camping, boating, lodging and the excellent Bear Trace Signature 18 hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Spring is around the corner and the weather is really warming up, so we will be doing many more hikes and adventures on the weekends. Our next big adventure is ATV riding at Brimstone Recreation, LLC and a meal at Baccaras in the Big South Fork on March 29th. Weather permitting though, we might take on one of the Spring Wildflower Walks at the Cordell Hull Birthplace & Museum State Park nearby our home.
Happy Trails!
